Building AMBEDO
Douglasville desperately needs quality art classes. The schools in this area have subpar (if any) classes that do not encourage young artists. I want to bring more art to this community by starting a nonprofit organization for middle schoolers and high schoolers, eventually working on adding other classes if there is enough support and interest.
Thus, AMBEDO was born.
Ambedo (noun): A kind of melancholic trance in which you become completely absorbed in vivid sensory details—raindrops skittering down a window, tall trees leaning in the wind, clouds of cream swirling in your coffee—briefly soaking in the experience of being alive, an act that is done purely for its own sake.
In these classes I, along with guest teachers, will teach sculpting, mixed media, painting, sketching, and ultimately foster the student's love of art. These classes will be provided free of charge, relying on the donations of kind patrons and fundraising to keep it going. As such, students will be expected to take the classes seriously and put effort into their work.
Current steps of building the nonprofit:
Registering AMBEDO as a nonprofit organization with the US Government. This is, of course, a very crucial step.
Appointing an assistant to help in class. This person will be paid and the job would be great experience for any young aspiring artist.
Researching grants and reaching out to sponsors. Without sponsors, this project will not happen. If you are interested in donating, there will be a link available soon on the donate page
